| Short Bio | Dr. Nurnabi Sheikh is a Research Associate at the Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment (HEHTA) research group at the University of Glasgow, UK. His research primarily focuses on health economics and public policy evaluation, with particular expertise in the economic evaluation of public policies, health technology assessment, and healthcare financing. He specializes in advanced modeling techniques, including Markov models, decision tree analysis, system dynamics, and causal analyses. Dr. Sheikh is actively involved in several research projects, including the economic and statistical evaluation of later trading hours policies for bars and clubs in Scotland, the cost-effectiveness analysis of health protection interventions for inclusion health populations in the UK, and the evaluation of the minimum unit pricing policy for alcohol in Scotland. He earned his PhD in Health Economics from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, where his research focused on social health protection for informal sector workers and their families in low-resource settings, utilizing a system dynamic modeling approach. During his PhD, he also worked as a researcher with health research groups and served as a tutor for quantitative research methods at the University of Strathclyde. Dr. Sheikh has previous experience working with the Health Systems team at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Bangladesh, where he contributed to several policy-relevant activities in collaboration with the government. His work at WHO included health labor market analysis, mapping of health professional educational institutions in Bangladesh, workload assessment for public sector health professionals, and health workforce retention strategies. Before joining WHO, he started his research career in 2015 with the Health Economics and Healthcare Financing Research Group at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). During his tenure, he was involved in multiple projects, including the economic evaluation of oral cholera vaccines, typhoid vaccines, and pneumonia interventions, as well as cholera surveillance and vaccine coverage assessments for forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals in Bangladesh. Additionally, Dr. Sheikh has held the position of adjunct lecturer in health economics at Independent University Bangladesh, where he was responsible for course design, material development, exam preparation, invigilation, and grading. He also serves on the Editorial Board of BMC Health Services Research. Dr. Sheikh is open to collaborations in his areas of expertise, including economic evaluation, health technology assessment, healthcare financing, and public policy evaluation. |
